User Roles and Permissions
Detailed guide on managing users, roles, and permissions in Get IT.
User Roles and Permissions
System roles define the base access level for users across the entire platform. Each role builds upon the permissions of the previous role.
Role Hierarchy and Capabilities
Get IT uses a nested role-based access control (RBAC) system. An Organization Admin has global rights, whereas Department-level roles are strictly scoped to the departments the user is assigned to.
1. System / Organization Admin (ORG_ADMIN)
The highest level of access. Organization Admins have unrestricted access across the entire platform.
- Glossary: Can create, edit, and delete any term in any department.
- Approvals & Conflicts: Has full access to the Approvals page. Can approve or reject term candidates and resolve multi-department conflicts globally.
- Quizzes: Can create, edit, and assign quizzes for any department.
2. Department Nomenclature Admin (NOMENCLATURE_ADMIN)
Administrative access restricted to specific assigned departments.
- Glossary: Can create, edit, and delete terms belonging to their assigned departments.
- Approvals & Conflicts: Has access to the Approvals page, but only sees and acts upon pending terms and conflicts involving their assigned departments.
- Quizzes: Can create and assign quizzes for their assigned departments.
3. Department Nomenclature Editor (NOMENCLATURE_EDITOR)
Content contributors for specific departments.
- Glossary: Can propose new terms and edit existing terms in their assigned departments. (Proposals go into a "Pending Review" state). Cannot delete terms.
- Approvals & Conflicts: No access. Editors cannot see the Approvals queue. They must wait for an Admin to review their proposals.
- Quizzes: Can create and assign quizzes for their assigned departments.
4. Nomenclature Viewer (VIEWER)
Standard read-only users.
- Glossary: Can browse, search, and view all active terms in the glossary. Cannot create or edit terms.
- Approvals & Conflicts: No access.
- Quizzes: Cannot create quizzes. Can only take quizzes that are explicitly assigned to them or made available to their department.
